About the Allies Program

In 2022, the Dallas Women Lawyers Association Foundation (DWLAF) Allies program was created to be the sustaining force behind the Dallas Women Lawyers Association Foundation’s philanthropic efforts. Allies are attorneys who have demonstrated high ethical and professional standards as well as a commitment to the empowerment and support of women in the legal profession. The Allies fortify DWLAF’s charitable giving.

Election to the Allies demonstrates commitment to elevating the standing of women in the legal profession and constitutes a professional honor. Each year, DWLAF awards bar study scholarships to graduating law students in North Texas; funds the Karen D. McCloud Memorial Grant, an annual grant to a solo or small firm woman lawyer to develop her legal practice; and provides periodic grants to nonprofits who support women in North Texas, including prior grant recipients Attitudes & Attire, Unlocking DOORS, Genesis Women’s Shelter, and Hope’s Door New Beginning Center.

The designations of Allies are listed below:

  1. Founding Ally – contribute $1,000 on or before December 31, 2022 and pledge to contribute $500 each year over 3 years;
  2. Ally – pledge to contribute $2,500 over 5 or 10 years;
  3. Judicial Ally – annual contribution of $100 each year by a member of the judiciary.
  4. Sustaining Ally – contribution of $100 (for Allies who have previously fulfilled their pledge payment to DWLAF)

The Nomination Process

Each year, current DWLAF Allies may nominate potential Allies. The DWLAF Board of Trustees approves nominees to Allyship. Each new DWLAF Ally is introduced each year at the Dallas Women Lawyers Association Awards Reception and is recognized online. Allies are invited to attend special events hosted by the DWLAF each year.
